Closing out Project Work

by Casey Ayers

Projects are unique in that they come to an end once specific objectives have been met. This course explores the process of declaring work done, transferring created value on to others, and capturing wisdom gained along the way for future endeavors.

What you'll learn

Project teams come together to accomplish unique objectives and create new value. What’s more often left unsaid is that projects inevitably come to an end once that work is complete, and managing that period of conclusion is essential to ensuring the hard work pays off. In this course, Closing out Project Work, you’ll learn how to know when project work is complete and how to validate that project results are acceptable to key stakeholders. First, you’ll explore how to transfer the value your team has created on to project beneficiaries in a smooth and efficient fashion. Next, you’ll discover why it’s important to take time to reflect on what has been accomplished. Finally, you'll learn how to capture lessons that can benefit your team and organization in the future, and take time to secure those lessons for future use. By the end of this course, you’ll understand how to handle the period that most clearly distinguishes project work from other kinds of tasks: bringing your work to a successful conclusion.
