Virtual Machine Learning Activity - VMs

In this hands-on lab, we're going to be using the provisioned servers to practice managing virtual machines in a RHEL7 environment. We'll start an instance, and then investigate the settings to discover the location of the VM storage. *This course is not approved or sponsored by Red Hat.*

  1. Challenge

Find the Name of the Virtual Machine on the Server

    1. Sudo into the root user:
      [cloud_user@host]$ sudo -i

    2. List the installed virtual machines:
      [root@host]# virsh list --all

  2. Challenge

    Start the VM

    1. Start the VM:
      [root@host]# virsh start centos7.0

  3. Challenge

Determine the Location and Names of the Files that the VM Contains

    1. Look at the configuration of an individual VM by running:
      [root@host]# virsh edit centos7.0

    2. What we'll see is an XML file. Sections labeled disk contain the source file for all the disks allocated to the VM. We should see references to files in /var/lib/libvirt/images/, including centos7.0.
