Using Supportconfig in SUSE Linux Enterprise
There are times when you need outside eyes on your system and need to use vendor support to help resolve an issue. In this hands-on lab, we will look at the supportconfig tool and its output.

Challenge
Use YaST to Configure Supportconfig and Generate a Support Request

Open YaST in text mode from the command line:
sudo yast
-
Go to Support on the left, Support on the right, and then Collect Data.

Select Create report tarball and hit Enter.

Choose the defaults, do not enter any info, and leave all other settings.

Wait for it to complete and finish collecting data.

Save it in
/var/log
and remove the(x)
in upload using the space bar. -
Finish and exit.

Challenge
Review the Generated Report and Ensure No User Data Is Present

Go to
/var/log
and runtar
to extract thents
file that was created:cd /var/log
sudo tar -xvf nts_ip_10-0-1-10...

Change into the
nts
directory you just created and review the data to ensure no sensitive user data is present:cd /var/log/nts_ip_10-0-1-10...
sudo grep -i 'cloud_user' ./* | less
