Introduction to Delegation in Project Server/Project Online

by Cindy Lewis

Resources are out of the office for a variety of reasons and businesses need solutions to keep their schedules and other information current. The delegation and project permissions features will be explored in detail as solutions to address unavailable resources.

What you'll learn

Customers often forget that they need to plan for backup resources when they implement enterprise software such as Project Server or Project Online. This course gets started by providing an overview of the key software components and the environment that will be used for demonstrations. The first half of the course illustrates how the delegation feature is configured by users and administrators. Through demonstrations, you will see how to act as a delegate when a resource is out sick. You will also see how to use the delegation feature as a way to troubleshoot a problem that was reported by the project manager to a project management office (PMO) administrator. The second half of the course illustrates how project permissions are configured by schedule owners. Through demonstrations, you will see how a user in a project manager role and how a user in a team member role is able to perform all types of schedule changes because of the provided project permissions. You will also see how changes may be done with either project web app (pwa) or project pro. Finally, the course will wrap up with a summary of the advantages and disadvantages of each feature along with key tips or warnings for practice use.
