From MS to MR

After two and a half years working at MSDN, it's time for me to move on. I joined MSDN to help Sara Williams reinvigorate it. Well, we succeeded. We delivered some cool products along the way (MSDN2 and Ladybug are my favorite two) and we built a stronger team. There's more to do, but things are in good hands: MSDN is staffed with people who really really really care about helping developers succeed. I will miss everyone there a lot, especially the people I worked with closely. Most of all, I will miss both Sara and my partners, Matt Cottingham and Kim Wolk. If you ever get a chance to work with any of them, you should take it.

In fact, I'm not just leaving MSDN, but MS altogether. When my son was born 4 months ago, I was home for 10 weeks, which was the longest I'd been home in 8.5 years. Telecommuting from NH to the West coast - first to LA and then to Seattle - takes its toll. I realized then that I needed to make a change and start investing closer to home.

To that end - and because I think the work they do is very cool - I'm moving to MindReef, a leading vendor of tooling designed to help developers build Web services systems successfully. I'm looking forward to a very short commute, working face to face with smart people every day (esp. Mr. SoapScope), and drilling even deeper into WS technology. After a couple weeks off, I'm starting there in early October.

I plan to keep blogging about XML and Web services. In fact, if anything, expect even more from me as my technology of choice moves from something I apply on my day job to being the center of my day job itself!

Good luck Tim. It seems you've picked a great company. I've been using SoapScope since v.1, and I swear by it.

It's good to know more they are hiring quality people (I considered Transactional COM+ a bible until I completely left COM behind)

Tim Ewald shares some info on the MSDN2. Now that's soooo coooool! I think that's the best thing could happen with MSDN. And now I just don't believe they let Tim to leave MSFT!...

Good luck in your new job. Hope this doesn't mean you won't be coming over for the VSJ conference in England any more, you'll be sadly missed if its the case.
