  • Twisted Coronas

Okay it's Saturday, so let me share something completely nontechnical and fun. What you need to make these cocktails: Six pack of Corona Extra Bottle of Bacardi Limon Lime Coctail stirrer (a chopstick works fine) Pop a slice of lime into a Corona and hand to a friend. Have them drink the neck, then...

  • Opting out

I'm on a mission to reduce the junk mail that I get. I figure it'll reduce the time I waste sorting through it, and help the environment at the same time. Each time I get a catalog that just gets thrown into the trash, instead of throwing it away, I put it in a little pile in my office, and when I need...

  • Astrophotography from 1992

I just came across these photos that I took back in '92 when I used to spend time enjoying amateur astronomy. The first photo in the series shows what it's like if you just point your camera into the sky in a suburb and hold the shutter open for about 20 minutes or so. Even then you can see an incredible...

  • Back from Prague

What a whirlwind February and March have been. Sydney one week, home the next, Campsight in Redmond the next week, home for a week, then off to Beijing for a week, home for a week and then off to Prague. I'm happy to say that I've not got much travel on my calendar for the next few months other than...

  • Workarounds for disabling overwrite mode in various apps

Thanks to Marcus for the comment pointing to this post , showing how to disable the Insert key in Word. It's a nice workaround, if the app you're using allows you to assign a macro to the Insert key, as Word does. I tried the same thing in VS 2005, but it doesn't recognize the Insert key in the “shortcut...

  • Overwrite mode should be optional

Pardon my rant, but does anyone use this feature more than once a year? It'd sure be nice if it were optional (and turned off by default). Is it just me, or are you also fed up with accidentally whacking that Insert key and then playing with undo/redo until you find the exact spot where you turned on...

No matter whether you're a right-wing nutcase or a bleeding heart liberal, you'll get a kick out of this shockwave title . Enjoy!

  • Cirque

Last night Kathy and I went and saw one of Cirque 's latest shows, Varekai . I am always amazed at how these shows manage to be so incredibly enveloping - seeing something like this on TV just wouldn't be the same. The performers have such unique skills, and yet they all share a grace and mastery of...
