Microsoft moving toward two-factor authentication

Two-factor authentication vital to future of e-commerce, claims Redmond.

Interesting to read this, on the heels of Schneier's insightful commentary on how two-factor authentication really doesn't solve today's problems. But it's not surprising to see RSA lining up behind Microsoft on this one, given that one of their most popular products is a two-factor authentication system called SecurID.

Sure, it does not solve problems with respect to internet-scale security, but didn't Schneier affirm the utility of two-factor auth for corporate/local login environments?

If you read the article, they are pushing this for "e-commerce". Sure it'll help some scenarios, but I don't think it'll make much of a difference in the e-commerce space, as Schneier points out.
