As many of you know, I'm a strong believer in the Windows Mobile State and Notifications Broker. It is one of those features that changes the entire landscape and creates great new opportunities for developers to integrate their applications more closely with the Windows Mobile platform.

One of the things I find kind of funny is that the basic features of the State and Notifications Broker are so easy to use that many people never take advantage of some of the more sophisticated features like conditional notifications, batch notifications, persistent notifications, custom notifications, etc. In the hope of making these features more accessible, I wrote this 3-part series as part of my You Can Take It With You column on MSDN.

Whether you're new to the State and Notifications Broker or you use it regularly, I think you'll find some useful information.

All of the articles in the series cover both native and managed equally. I really enjoyed researching and writing the series; I hope you enjoy reading it.

Hi, I try to use vs2005 create a smart device cab but meet a problem that this cab cannot be installed successfully in the ppc. The reason is HKEY signed value for 0x80000002. Do you know any work around for this? Thanks.

Edwin;

In part 2 of this series I provide a reference for how to work around these problems.

Go to http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb286907.aspx#PersistentNotificationandApplicationInstallation and then locate table 4.

In table 4, find 0x8000002 in the "Hexidecimal" column of the table and then use the corresponding value from the "Unsigned Decimal" column.

That should take care of the problem.

Hi, Jim, thanks for comment. I did what you mentioned in article part 2, table 4. It happenes on when I install the cab in ppc => " Installation of project.cab was unsuccessful". However, when I re-sign the value as 0 in HKEY, the installation is ok.
It is device's problem? or cab limitation?

hmmmm....

I'm not sure - I'll have to take a look at a couple of things to work out the issue.

I follow up as soon as I can.

Hi, Jim, sorry to bother that if the issue is solved now? Thanks.

Sorry Edwin;

I've been swamped. I'll need a couple of more days before I can spend any time on it. I'm on the road the first 1/2 of next week so won't be able to get back to it until Thursday (26-July).

I'll look at it in more detail then and follow up with you then.

Again my apologies - I've just got a ton of things on my list lately.

Jim
