Just a quick note on two new whitepapers that came online in the past week.

Windows Mobile 5.0 Multimedia Capabilities
Windows Mobile 5.0 adds tremendous support for multimedia with virtually all of these new capabilities exposed directly to the .NET Compact Framework. In Christian Forsberg's latest whitepaper, Working with Pictures, Video and Cameras in Windows Mobile 5.0, he examines these new capabilities and presents a number of ideas for incorporating them into enterprise applications.

Hosting ActiveX Controls from .NET Compact Framework 2.0
.NET Compact Framework 2.0 has made tremendous improvements in it's interoperability support as compared to .NET CF 1.0. The addition of support for accessing COM objects being one of the most significant advances. The one short-coming in .NET CF 2.0 COM support is that there is no support for hosting ActiveX controls.

It turns out that although direct support for hosting ActiveX controls has not been provided, all of the necessary hooks do exist. In Alex Feinman's latest whitepaper, Hosting ActiveX Controls in .NET Compact Framework 2.0, he covers the steps necessary to add ActiveX control hosting support to an application. The whitepaper also provides a downloadable sample.

Are you calling a post that is nearly a year and a half old a snooze??

Seems kind'a pointless.

TRONH;

I'm sorry but I don't understand the question. Unfortunately, I only speak/read English.

Is your question: Is an ActiveX control required to access the device's camera?

Y.D.

Yes IE Mobile does support ActiveX controls. The main issue is that the controls must be specific to Windows Mobile because Windows Mobile devices use ARM processors unlike desktop Windows which of course uses X86.

Here's a post from the IE Mobile blog that talks a little about IE Mobile & ActiveX: http://blogs.msdn.com/iemobile/archive/2007/06/20/ie-mobile-support-of-activex.aspx

I hope that helps.

Does an ActiveX control on windows mobile have full interactive capabilities with JavaScript? I currently have an application for regular desktop browsers where JavaScript calls methods on ActiveX and there are callbacks from ActiveX into JavaScript. Will this full interactivity work on Windows mobile?
