I've recently finished Alfred Bester's “The Stars, My Destination”. I'd heard about it for years, but realized that I'd never read it. Ok, its 50 years old, so a little dated -- but I thought it was still a good read. Actually, I found the idea of hereditary company names (i.e. the Edison of Edison) pretty hilarious, but probably in keeping with the times...
Since then, I've started reading Kate Adie's biography “The Kindness of Strangers”. She was the BBC reporter they sent to trouble spots when I was living in England -- it was always a bad sign when she showed up. I still remember her report the morning after the troops went in to Tiananmen Square.
