I'm no Don Box

My post on writing generated some interesting responses from people, ranging from 'inspirational' to 'how could you write that way?'. I think John Lam understood my motivation for pen and paper writing the best by describing it as 'eliminating mental friction'. It's really about having nothing between my thoughts and the transcription process.

Don tried out my pen / book combination while I was staying with him last week (thanks Don and Barb for the hospitality!), but he did not find the process very compelling. Here's a sample of his writing in my book:

And a similar sample of my own handwriting:

I think he just needs to give it another try, and leverage more of the platform. His entry was like using MS Word to create a simple text file: it works fine, but you're not really taking advantage of the full set of features. To truly appreciate the pen/paper platform, you have to scratch things out, use different colors, draw at random locations, include doodles, etc. :)

I should close this post by noting that I am also no Bill Clinton...
