I just solved my problem by deleting the WinXP installation folder that was used by Parallels to run XP. I did not uninstall Parallels, just the XP folder ( approx 11 GB in size ). Now, Boot Camp happily made the partition and I'm running the XP setup in BC.

I did NOT need to defrag the disk, but I was just about to buy iDefrag, when Boot Camp complied. I suspected that the XP installation would not be moved, and it was the culprit.

I agree with the main point of this post: Boot Camp should not require a secondary degrag program, and the BC utility should give some more detail as to why it cannot move the files, or which ones cannot be moved , giving the user some direction to begin looking for answers.

I used Boot Camp in the beta version on several machines and never ran into this problem.

Last note: My Macs run extremely fast as long as I keep 15 - 20% of the drive space free, allowing OS X to optimize the drive. If the space falls below 10 - 8%, the system bogs down significantly. One problem with the disk optimization in OS X is that a machine that goes to sleep, will not be optimized and defragged. You must let it stay awake for an hour or so without use to let it run the optimization. Previously, I would sleep my machines or shut them down every day, not wanting to waste energy. Now, I know that once a week, or so, I just need to let the machine go to sleep after an hour to optimize, and I can sleep or turn it off the rest of the time.

Hope this helps someone.

I had exactly the same problem with my T42. At first the screen only went off occasionally when the brightness was 100%. By pressing Fn+F3 to turn the screen off and then move the mouse a little, it went bright again. Then it only got worse and worse and this morning it went black after about 15 seconds with brightness on lowest setting. I just turned it in to my IBM dealer and he says that the screen must be replaced. That will cost a lot but still I'm not ready to throw it away yet so I will go for it.

Folks this is symtom when we are asking 100% brightness from LCD display. Just reduce brightness from 100% and you will be ok in this case. Reduce brightness using Fn-End keys.
