Open Command Window Here in Vista

Dave Ingham posted a comment to my last post about things I missed in Vista, and pointed me to a couple of very useful but hidden features in the explorer window.
If you shift-right-click on a folder in an explorer window, you will see two incredibly useful menu items added to the menu:
  1. Open Command Window Here...
  2. Copy as Path

I've always installed a .reg file to add 'Command prompt here' to the right click menu, but now it's built in, sweet! Thanks for the tip, Dave.

Now we just have to figure out how to change it from CMD.EXE to POWERSHELL.EXE so the thing that opens up is actually useful :-)

I've always used the PowerToys for Windows XP, one of them is Open Command Window Here Powertoy

From the website:
"This PowerToy adds an "Open Command Window Here" context menu option on file system folders, giving you a quick way to open a command window (cmd.exe) pointing at the selected folder."
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/downloads/powertoys/xppowertoys.mspx

There are others interesting utilities as well.

As a developer one of the features that I used daily was to drag files from Windows Explorer onto a command

Also see this url: http://www.petri.co.il/add_command_prompt_here_shortcut_to_windows_explorer.htm

For me in Vista, the last option of using the registry worked.
